Big Japanese Bronze Shishi Foo Lion Dog Okimono Statue
Price on Request

An amazing depiction of a family of 7 Shishis (Fu/Foo/Lion Dogs) in a dramatic landscape potraying the mother Shishi's looking over her playful children. The radiating flower is called Peony or Botan which is usually associated with the image of the Shishi as guardian in Shinto and Buddhist beliefs. This cast iron heavy okimono's dimensions are: H = 54, W = 40, D = 35 cms respectively. It is estimated to be from late Meiji to early Taisho period. There is a minor repair/glue work on the shishi on the lower right as can be seen in the picture but nevertheless it does not unjustify the magnificence of the statue itself. Truly a work of excellent craftmanship and art that can not fail to dispense anybody's attention. Shipping will be included in sale price.
