Premium Gilt-wood Edo Period Japanese Buddhist Altar Table

A Polychrome lacquered Wooden Statue in Zushi of Buddhist God - Bishamonten, also known as Tamonten, one of the Shiten-no or the Deva Kings who protect the great Buddha.

Made by Yosegi Zukuri Technique, this Bunkyu Period-dated and signed(1861) Edo Sei Kannon is a great and rare Buddhist Statue resemblant of the Bakumatsu period prior to modern Meiji Japan. Read in "Oofutsu...Bunkyu Gannen Aki" which probably means the creation date of the piece which is translated into year 1861.

Male. The god of war and warriors, and a dispenser of wealth and good fortune. Bishamonten is also considered a god of healing, with the power to save emperors from life-threatening illness and to expel the demons of plague.

An early Edo (1600s) mystical gilt-wood image of Benten enshrined in a Lacquered Zushi. Advanced Patination due to age, some arms are missing but generally a very good preserved figure as it is.
